Bengaluru Faces ₹800 Crore Shortfall as 3.7 Lakh Properties Default on Tax

📰 Full News: 3.7 Lakh Properties in Bengaluru Yet to Pay Tax

As of  the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has identified approximately 3.7 lakh properties in Bengaluru with pending property tax dues amounting to ₹700–800 crore. Despite earlier action, demand letters, and auction notices served to around 6,000–7,000 defaulters, compliance has remained low.

To address this backlog, BBMP plans to:

  • Re-issue SMS and email payment reminders to property owners.

  • Block e‑khata accounts of defaulters, preventing property sales until dues are cleared.

  • Continue its enforcement drive, with authorities estimating that the entire process could take four to five months to complete.

BBMP officials have strongly urged property owners to proactively settle dues to avoid sanctions and allow smoother civic service access
